Since there was a question about Infy’s insider trading on the news that Mr. Narayana Murthy is back as Chairman of the company, the obvious question is: Did that trade make money?
By the truckload, it seems. The stock ended up moving +4% up.
I’ll be the first to admit I was wrong in the assessment that the stock might not react. It has though some signs of weakness – closing below the 200 day moving average and today, down 1% in a down day.
What seasoned technical analysts might see is there is a large gap between 2600 and 2800 and one more below between 2420 and 2478. Which one goes first?
However, the question of whether there was an insider trade is still moving towards a “no” – though I believe the issue merits investigation.

MoneyLife claims that someone knew Narayana Murthy is coming back to Infosys and traded on it.
Yesterday, when the Sensex was down 455 points, Infosys an index stock was up 3.32% while TCS and HCL Technologies were flat. On Saturday, Infosys announced that NR Narayana Murthy would come back as the executive chairman. A case of insider trading? We will never know because Infosys is a holy cow and there will be no probe
The last line is probably incorrect. An analysis of insider trading isn’t an indictment of the company – it is an analysis into trading and individual greed. One of the problems with insider trading laws in India is that they aren’t wide enough to cover all the mechanisms possible, and that they are not effective enough to deter people through big fines or putting people in jail.
Moneylife’s line of argument is that the Infy stock rose 3.32% on Friday, when the index fell 2.25%. And that there was no “reason” for the stock to move up, given that other IT stocks were flat to down. The second part of the argument isn’t convincing as the relative move in IT stocks is generally not in …

The Infosys Stock is down over 20% today as results came in. As I mentioned (Chart of Infy on result days) the stock was expected to be volatile – and I ended up closing a good profit on some put options I held. The results aren’t quite so bad, but expectations were too high. After [...]

Infosys’ Results tomorrow will kick off large cap results for the Financial Year 2012-13, and is expected to be a really big thing. The stock was up over 3.5% today, closing in at 2915. The last three times, the stock has moved in the opposite direction of it’s previous day. Since 2007 though, going the [...]

Infosys declared results on Friday and the stock went up substantially. It has in fact been the best single day move for the stock and the best result day by far. The 17% move came on the back of what was seen to be excellent results, or at least, for the first time in a [...]

Infosys is a big player on results day, though mostly downwards, it turns out. With an underperformance this quarter (a drop in QoQ results) the fall wasn’t surprising. But it is the worst in five years. And in other good news, I have found a house in Bangalore, and hope to close the deal in [...]

(My Yahoo Piece on Infy results) Infosys announced Q2 results (September 2011) today, beating expectations substantially. Revenues were up 8% from last quarter to 8099 cr. and Net profits up 9.73% from last year, to 1906 cr. The stock is up 5% and has lifted the index up with it, with both the Nifty and [...]

The Infosys stock is down 3.5% to 2,500 as we speak, and it’s a result day tomorrow. Result days are big for the INFY stock; the chart of the day shows the movement of the INFY stock the day before, and on the result day itself. The last five quarters have seen huge negative moves [...]

From my post at Yahoo: Infosys announced Q1 FY 2012 results today. In a dull quarter, they produced a Quarter on Quarter (QoQ) increase of 3.2% in revenue, with net profits falling about 5% from the March quarter. The Year-on-Year (YoY) Net Profit growth printed 15% due to a lower Q1 last year. Revenues went [...]

The can of worms might just be opened. Infosys Technologies filed that it has been subpoena’d by a Grand Jury in the US, to provide information about its B-1 visas to employees. A U.S. Employee filed a lawsuit against INFY after he refused to help issue temporary B-1 visas for certain workers, and this seems [...]
